Applied Economics is a part of social science that is related with applied problems such as natural resources and food problems.

Food and Resource Economics

The Food and Resource Economics program is a study of social science in Applied Economics which deals with issues related to the development and applied problems of food and resources. The studies approach the natural resources and environmental management issues related to food production from economic problems; such as production, consumption, marketing, policy, trade, and finance to economic development from the economic perspective of rational use of resources. This course is designed to research food distribution, natural resources and the environment/environments, production management and agribusiness, finance and consumer economy, international trade and future trade, welfare and an information economy which is based on economics, business administration, statistics, and management information systems. The issue of food and resources is one of the most difficult and noble tasks that we must face during our lifetime. The studies are aimed at solving resource and environmental problems caused by economic development, by analyzing production, distribution, and consumption problems related to the development and utilization of food and resources from an economic perspective. Also, it pursues efficient management and the rational use of the food and resource industry. The importance of food resource economics has become greater nowadays, as food self-sufficiency has declined and global food security and resource exhaustion has become important agendas for international organizations such as WTO, FAO, and APEC.

Department of Food and Resources in Korea University

The Department was established in 1959, and the course was designed to deal with the economic problems of food production and distribution, policies across the food industry, and regional economic and resource utilization, and environmental management based on analysis of micro-individual market changes through applied economics such as food economics and resource environment economics.
